The Unofficial Apple Weblog has released an illustrative guide to installing Windows 7 on your Apple Laptop. It’s an interesting look into turning your Apple into a Windows tranvestite. (Look out, Windows may have a virus!). For what it’s worth, Apple’s uniformed hardware standard lends a benefit to Windows 7, allowing it to run much stabler than any standard PC platform.

While this guide may be simple enough for you seasoned pros out there, it breaks everything down to layman’s terms, ensuring even the newest Apple nerd will be well on their way to getting this up and running.

If you have been looking for a way to show off your iPod in a gratuitous and egotistical manner, than look no further than this monstrosity. This is not your average gold plated ipod case, or an iPod integrated airplane. This is much, much better.

Regen, a consumer electronics company based in San Francisco, CA has recently announced a pair of solar powered products, dubbed the Renu and Reverb. The Renu at first glance is a nifty machine. It allows for audio playback and charging of your iPod, powered by the sun’s rays.

But this is brushed aside by the incredible Reverb by Regen. The Reverb is a solar powered speaker system that affords you the benefit of setting your wallet on fire. According to its website, the reverb generates power from photovoltaic panels and thusly outputs sound equivalent to a standard 60W speaker.

Great. Some buzzwords tell me that my iPod is magically powered through the sun, and gives me the output of a single 60W speaker. I’m excited. This is my excited face. I’m more than ready to spend 2,300 dollars, with a 500 dollar deposit on a speaker system that doesn’t even charge my iPod when plugged in.

Two thousand, three hundred dollars on a plastic box that is three feet tall. Two thousand, three hundred dollars on a wireless device that’s not covered by homeowner’s insurance should it ever leave my household. Four of these would keep me drunk for at least a year and a half. Trust me, I can get better usage out of a case of Wild Turkey than I can of an absolutely pointless solar powered iPod speaker (Note the lack of pluralization in the word speaker)

Electricity on The Embarcadero, where Regen is located, is not powered by photovoltaic panels, so here’s hoping that Regen figures out a way to pay their electric bill in the coming months when none of these actually sell. I’ll stick with a Toyota Prius and a car dock for my iPod.

So if you’re stuck in on a random night this weekend with nothing to do, or nowhere to go, why not fire up a console and BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINNNNNNSSSSSSSSSS.

5. Call of Duty 5: Nazi Zombies
Console: PC, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3
Release Date: November 11th, 2008

Originally intended as a minigame for Call of Duty 5: World at War, the “Nazi Zombie” game has risen into its own, a la Counter Strike. You, and up to three other team members (Local, or over the internet) team up in survival mode. Players go through rounds of zombie hordes, racking up points for killing zombies, and other various tasks in the game. Points are used for weapons, weapons upgrades and map unlocking. Lots of fun, but extremely hectic. Just like tetris, you will be devoured. Eventually. Weapons include various rifles and machine guns, ray guns, and monkey bombs that zombies attract to once thrown.

4. Left 4 Dead
Console: PC, Xbox 360
Release Date: November 18th, 2008

You might be undead if you’ve not played this one! Haha, oh man do I make myself laugh. Left 4 Dead, from the creators of Half-Life 2 is similar to the Nazi Zombies minigame of COD: 5. Groups of up to 4 are pitted up against the zombie horde, controlled by an ominous director who controls the pacing and difficulty of the game. The game is heavily co-operative, relying on specific rules to engross players in the team experience. Weapons include shotguns, rifles, and machine guns.

3.Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Console: SNES, Sega Genesis, Wii Virtual Console
Release Date: July 19th, 1993

Hands down, this is my favorite zombie game on the list. Released in 1993 on the SNES and Genesis consoles, ZamN puts you in the role of either Zeke or Julie, as they contend with a neighborhood of Zombies, and other B-Movie favorites like werewolves, vampires, and overgrown babies. Weapons include silverware, soda can grenades, and weed whackers.

2.Doom
Console: PC
Release Date: December 10th, 1993

The Grandaddy of them all, Doom. Play this for pure nostalgia. Whether you were a member of your school’s Trench Coat Mafia, or you spent all day in front of your Gateway, or you were a fan of the Trent Reznor soundtrack , Doom had something to offer everyone. Trapped on Mars, you had to fight your way through various hellish creatures. Maybe these weren’t zombies per se, but if there wasn’t Doom, we wouldn’t have the culture of gaming we have today. Weapons included guns, chainsaws, and the ever popular BFG9000.

1.Resident Evil

Console: Sony Playstation
Release Date: March 22nd, 1996.
Another precursor modern gaming, Resident Evil was the perennial, original Zombie Game. Playing as Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, members of a local law enforcement task force. Chris/Jill is sent to the Mansion to uncover just what in God’s name is going on. Players are delighted to find a whole lot of hell going on. Zombies munching on people, zombie dogs, and other freaks are trying to take you out. This game was the first game to make me almost lose my bowels, in the scene where dogs jump through the window out of nowhere. Great stuff. Weapons included pistols, shotguns, and knives. Truly the survivalist’s game.

There you have it. What better way to get ready for the pending zombie apocalypse.

Yesterday, an internet era came to an end. Millions of animated skulls stopped smoking cigarettes, “Under Construction” signs went to the wayside, and countless GeoCities WebMasters lost their jobs. Yahoo, after spending 3.5 billion on the free webhosting service 10 years ago, finally shut down the service.

But fret not, internet netizens, there are plenty of terrible, terrible websites still available on GeoCities’ former competitor AngelFire. To celebrate the long and storied history of people expressing themselves in the worst way possible, lets take a peek inside some of the weirdest, most twisted places on the internet.

5. CSI Miami Fanfiction

I’ll admit, Fanfiction is old hat, and overall one of the most vile, wrong things about the internet. Never in my life do I care to read the pornographic tales of Futurama characters, but apparently a 16 year old in the basement will spend hours upon hours behind locked doors, furiously typing away. Color me surprised when I came across CSI: Miami Gay Fanfiction.

The worst part? There’s not even a cool David Caruso one-liner to open the episode.

4. Something about Aliens and Religion

I don’t know what the Nephilim of Genesis 6 is, but apparently it’s something to do with Satan creating UFOs. I think. There’s a lot of text here. The author asks us a range of questions, including “DO YOU KNOW WHO IS REALLY IN CHARGE IN OUR WORLD TODAY?” There’s also an in-depth discussion of the Heavenly Divine Council. This is one guy I’d go to church with.

3. My Favorite Drugs

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Internet, where anything is possible! This man woke up one morning, with a fire in his eye. This day was going to be different. He was going to get up and be productive. Stop doing all these drugs that keep him from being somebody. He’s going to get on Angelfire, put a website together, and it’s going to be his three. favorite. drugs. I don’t love the internet because of the terrible things contained within, but for the simplicity of a page like this.

2. Clothing for Dogs

Clicking around the site, you can definitely tell evolution happened. That this site started off as a regular angelfire free webpage, but somehow business boomed, and they moved on to their own domain, which is where all the links point to, from their angelfire site. The bathrobes for dogs is an absolute nightmare.

1. She’s EveryWhere, All Over My Mind, I LOVE YOU HEATHER!

Pathetic. Just absolutely pathetic. I really feel for this guy. One day you’re going to wake up spongerob, and you’re going to realize that Heather doesn’t really love you. That she’s just been using you for the 97 Jeep Cherokee that you own. That she never loved you. You should stop wasting time on the internet, spongerob and drink yourself stupid at a bar on a Tuesday. Maybe the pain won’t go away, but it will help you forget about all those wasted tanks of gas she burned when she was out with some other guy.

Sometime in the near future, when the swine flu has left us more bedridden and miserable then usual, don’t expect to hop online and waste away leveling up your World of Warcraft character. According to to investigators with the Government Accounting Office, there is no plan in place to deal with bandwidth backlog should a pandemic occur, leaving us in the confines of our home. The report even states that the government may have to filter sites based on high usage, and turn them off accordingly.

So if you want YouPorn while you’re sick, better start lobbying against John McCain’s internet freedom act that will all but get rid of net neutrality.

Hey everyone, Mat here, Household Hacker’s newest contributor, and resident OS X expert!

I thought for my first article, I would write about a problem that I think many of us, including myself, have. Do you ever find yourself waking up in the morning, and you just want to go back to bed? Perhaps you don’t like your job, or your alarm went off by accident on a weekend. Or maybe your girlfriend, Heather, left you for your downstairs neighbor, Todd. Whatever the reason, we’re going to show you how to turn your Apple computer into an alarm clock that motivates you to turn over the covers and fall back into blissful sleep.

What you’ll need:

1. An Apple, running OS X 10.4 or later.
2. Automator, iTunes, and iCal (These are all found in your Applications Directory)
3. Self-indulgent music or songs. I recommend anything by The Cure, Bright Eyes, or Dashboard Confessional

The first step in the process is to open the Automator application. A window will pop up, asking you to select a workflow. Select “iCal Alarm.”

Great. We’ll touch on iCal later, lets get to actually building the script.

Next, select Library on the left. To the right of that is a Search Bar. Search for “Set Computer Volume.” Drag that into the workflow area and set the output volume to however loud you want your music to be.

Delete your search entry, and search for “Launch Application.” This is the same as above, but drag it under Set Computer Volume. In that window, there is a drop down menu to select the Application to run. Select iTunes.

Now, under the Library menu on the left, there is an option for Music. Click on it, and look for “Start iTunes Playing.” Same as before, but be sure to drag it under Launch Application.

Great! Now, save it to whatever you like. I chose “Alarm Clock.”

After doing so, your iCal now launches and creates a new Calendar based on this Automator Script. You can now set this Alarm Clock to run whenever you like. I’ve set mine for 11am, as that is a reasonable time for me to wake up, and realize that I don’t ever want to get out of bed.

With all that done, your iTunes will now launch within about 30 seconds of when it passes the event time. iTunes by default will play the first song in your music library. If you select shuffle in iTunes, it will play a random song every time the alarm goes off!

And that’s it! Now, whenever you wake up, you will wake up with the smug realization that you have nothing left, and comfortably go back to sleep, away from the world.

Note: Household Hacker does not take any responsibility for any actions taken after listening to The Cure while weeping silently under the bedsheets. Come back Heather, I miss you so much.

You all wanted more pranks and we listened. To kick off our new season here at Household Hacker we have put together a nice little prank just in time for Halloween.

We show you how to trick your friends and family into thinking they have some how downloaded the scariest and most angry virus ever created.

And rest-assured, this file will cause no harm to your system. We created it in Flash and it is about the same as watching a 30 second video. Get your cameras out and film your victims! Best videos will get featured here at householdhacker.com
