Show your iPod off in the most obnoxious way possible

If you have been looking for a way to show off your iPod in a gratuitous and egotistical manner, than look no further than this monstrosity. This is not your average gold plated ipod case, or an iPod integrated airplane. This is much, much better.

Regen, a consumer electronics company based in San Francisco, CA has recently announced a pair of solar powered products, dubbed the Renu and Reverb. The Renu at first glance is a nifty machine. It allows for audio playback and charging of your iPod, powered by the sun’s rays.

But this is brushed aside by the incredible Reverb by Regen. The Reverb is a solar powered speaker system that affords you the benefit of setting your wallet on fire. According to its website, the reverb generates power from photovoltaic panels and thusly outputs sound equivalent to a standard 60W speaker.

Great. Some buzzwords tell me that my iPod is magically powered through the sun, and gives me the output of a single 60W speaker. I’m excited. This is my excited face. I’m more than ready to spend 2,300 dollars, with a 500 dollar deposit on a speaker system that doesn’t even charge my iPod when plugged in.

Two thousand, three hundred dollars on a plastic box that is three feet tall. Two thousand, three hundred dollars on a wireless device that’s not covered by homeowner’s insurance should it ever leave my household. Four of these would keep me drunk for at least a year and a half. Trust me, I can get better usage out of a case of Wild Turkey than I can of an absolutely pointless solar powered iPod speaker (Note the lack of pluralization in the word speaker)

Electricity on The Embarcadero, where Regen is located, is not powered by photovoltaic panels, so here’s hoping that Regen figures out a way to pay their electric bill in the coming months when none of these actually sell. I’ll stick with a Toyota Prius and a car dock for my iPod.
